Queen Constance is the first wife of King Shrewd and mother of Prince Chivalry, Prince Verity and an unnamed daughter.
She was a noble lady from Shoaks who also had relatives in Bearns. According to Lady Patience, she was a queen that spurred others to action, and especially women. Half of the guard was female during her reign.
She had a tower top garden, known as the Queen's Garden, where grew lots of different sorts of thyme. She also had a hunting cat called Hisspit.
She died of a birth fever with her infant daughter, and her husband was young enough to take a second wife, Queen Desire. She may have passed away before King Bounty, as Desire was initially referenced as "the wife of the heir".
It is said by many that even though Shrewd came to develop feelings for his queen, he married her by duty and obligation, and not by love.
During the attack of the Red Ship Raiders, her son, King-in-Waiting Verity, baptized one of his own ships in her honor.
